How to update your HD DVD Player using a firmware update file downloaded to a PC

Preparation

You will need ALL of the following:

  1. PC connected to the Internet.
  2. CD drive that is capable of reading and writing CD discs.
  3. Zip file extraction utility.
  4. Recording software installed on your PC that can create a CD from an ISO image file.
  5. Blank CD-R or CD-RW disc.

What is an ISO image file?

The ISO image file has been packaged into a Zip file. You can use the file compression utility in Windows® or another extraction utility such as WinZip® to open the Zip file and extract the ISO image file before working with it.


Creating a CD from an ISO image file

  1. Download the firmware update ZIP file to your PC's hard drive.
  2. Using an extraction utility, extract the ISO image file from the downloaded firmware update ZIP file.
  3. Insert a blank recordable CD into your CD-RW drive.
  4. Start the CD recording software on your PC.
  5. Create a CD using the downloaded ISO image file. Please refer to the instructions that came with your CD recording software regarding the creation of a CD from an ISO image file.

SPECIAL NOTE: The contents of the HD DVD firmware update disc you create will not be viewable on a PC. The firmware update disc is encoded in a special format that can only be read by your HD DVD player.

Notice (Read Prior to Beginning the Firmware Update Process)
The following events may cause the writing of the firmware update to the player to be halted and the player to no longer operate properly.

  1. DO NOT unplug the power cord during the firmware update process.
  2. Avoid loss or interruption of power during the firmware update process.
  3. DO NOT press the power button on the unit during the firmware update process.
  4. Check the firmware update disc for dirt or scratches before beginning the firmware update process.

Instructions (Begin Firmware Update)

  1. Confirm that the player is connected to a display device.
  2. Turn the display device on and select the appropriate video input on the display device to view the player. (i.e., Video 1, Video 2, HDMI etc…)
  3. Turn the player on by pressing the "On / Standby" button" on the unit or on the remote control.
  4. Open the player's tray by momentarily pressing the "Open / Close" button on the front of the unit.
  5. Place the firmware update disc on the tray and close the disc drawer. The player will indicate "Loading" as the firmware update disc is initially read.
  6. The player's front display will indicate "Ver Up" and the on-screen display will indicate "Do you want to update the version?"
  7. If "Yes" is not already highlighted, select "Yes" by using the cursor left button on the remote control.
  8. Press "OK" on the remote control.
  9. If you receive a message "Error code : 2007c5c2" on the display device screen, this indicates that you are using an incorrect firmware version. You will need to download and create another firmware update disc with the correct version for your model and restart the firmware update process.
  10. After approximately 2 minutes, the player's front display will indicate the progress of the firmware update process in steps. It will first indicate "STEP 1/5" then "STEP 2/5", "STEP 3/5", "STEP 4/5" and finally "STEP 5/5".
  11. The player's front display will indicate "STEP 5/5" for approximately 25 minutes. During the firmware update process, the ON/STANDBY LED will flash between red and blue indicating that the firmware update process is still in progress.
  12. The firmware update process will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The disc tray will automatically open upon completion of the firmware update process, and the unit will shut off with the disc tray in the open position.
  13. Once the firmware update process has been completed, remove the firmware update disc from the disc tray.
  14. Turn the player on by pressing the "On / Standby" button on the front of the unit or on the remote control. The disc tray will automatically close.

The firmware in your player is now updated.
